Over the years, I've seen a lot of writing submitted to TimBookTu and very little of it has been pieces that would be considered satire, humor, and other forms of comedic writing. Have many of you written pieces of this nature? Do you find it more difficult to do than the type of writing that you primarily compose? Do you try to incorporate it into the works that you create? We all seem to love a good laugh or something that is funny but it is not as prevalent at least here at TimBookTu.

Please share your thoughts with the discussion board.

I know with the "Three Serendipitous Nouns Game" most of us seem to incorporate humor into our works, but now and again someone just kicks out an entirely humorus joint. DH is the king of humorous stories. I'll throw out one here and there as well, but we seem not to write humorous stories as a rule.

You both are right. The Nouns game has been where I've tried to use humor, too. I've occasionally written some responses that I considered humorous but I've yet to sit down and do an entire story. I realize that it may take some effort to really create something that will have people laughing. But it is something for all the writers out there to consider.

Comedy in any form is the most difficult communicative expression of all because its success depends on so many X factors. What one sees as knock down, drag out, side splitting comedy, another might perceive a personal insult. There've probably been a lot of bones broken and divorces filed as a result of bad jokes.

I've seen lots of cases where the story or joke, was funny as hell, but the person telling it was not!, so it tanked like a whale in a gold fish bowl!(you might wanna at least smile :) here if you like that one! a drum beat wouldn't be altogether inappropriate either!) I've heard some Moms Mabley, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy jokes and pundits get butchered by someone trying their best to win friends and influence strangers. Jonathan Swift was a master of sarcasm because of the times he lived in. Those oh so familiar nursery rhymes, humpty dumpty, jack and jill, 4 and 20 blackbirds, etc, may've been funny at time of their inception. All of them are politically rilpe, but they had to be delivered in a certain manner if the author wanted to keep his head on his shoulders.

The story writer that incorporates a plethora of styles within one piece is truly "master of the moment!" That is why I've said repeatedly that those of us who write anything, in any style, repeatedly, can't help but take on GODlike qualities because we become literary "creators." Our characters can only do or say, what we allow them to do or say. That is why a visit to tbt is an essential in the basic creative process imo, and there are many creators here. The freedom of expression, camraderie and honesty in assessments with little personal motivation are qualities envied by most sites and I haven't found many that even come close. Thats why I hang around. Not to mention the fact that my chain only extends so far from the cellwall!

As was pointed out, that "nouns game" is something else. You want a lil inspiration, or a nice smile, or a hearty belly laugh, just wander around in there in some of the early pages now. I promise if you're in a public place people will be looking at you funny because you're smiling, laughing, or just wondering about something you're reading. Whats that called ........

THE POWER OF THE PEN baby!
