This is for those who visit the board but do not join in on the discussions. I have removed the requirement to register just so that you can comment. Please share your reasons why you are not actively participating in the various forums and threads. Feel free to vote in the poll or provide a comment. Here's your chance to let me know what you're thinking.

Hey Memphis,
I vote for number 8!
But in all seriousness, I've come to believe that many like the idea of being a writer. I guess it's kinda cool when someone asks, "What do you do?" and you say, "I'm a writer." It's definitely a conversation starter.
True story, about three years ago I had to bail a relative of mine out of jail. The correction officer asked me what was my occupation. I said writer. Another correction officer in the room commented, "That must be the new eupherism for drug dealer."
I gotta admit I was bling-blinging that day and I posted a sizable cash bail, so I can understand how the c.o. came to that conclusion. But I was insulted. However, I knew I was in the wrong place to give the c.o. a piece of my mind, so I hadda let that one slide.
Returning to my original point, I think many are infatuated and intrigued by the idea of being a writer, but when they see all the hard work that's involved and how hard it is to break into this industry and how slow and how subjective it is, many give up. That infatuation soon turns to dismay and disenchantment. I think all of this results in little to no participation on writers discussion forums. And it breaks my heart to say this, but it is what it is - you know "us" are notorious for not finishing what we start. So a writers forum geared toward people of color really has many hurdles to jump.
What I would like to know, and perhaps you can start another thread and poll, is how many of us here have completed manuscripts, polished to the very best of our ability, and are actively submitting them to commercial publishers and/or agents who accept our chosen genre? I've said this before and it bears repeating: There's no guarantee that you'll be published if you submit, but there's a guarantee you'll never be published if you don't submit.
No one likes rejection, but rejection is part of the process.

Well as for me, I personally prefer #6. Unless that dreaded alter ego of mine takes over, I sort of lurk and browse, but seldom post. I like the anonymity. So I shall retire for the moment and garner my thoughts.

I guess I'll take #6 most of the time I just like to read the comments these days.
But to be truthful I guess I never saw myself as a writter just a brother who had a lot of thoughts rolling around in my head.
Some through trials and tribulations and writting is away to express what I'm feeling.
I guess the frustrating part for me is when I hit that enter button and see the mistakes which are many sometimes, trust I see them and say "duck" but it's all in love. I'm just thankful that my own people have welcomed me in with open arms and embraced me with encouragement. and I know if I get to out there to far "US" is waiting with the paddle to bring me back in line, don't we just love her ? Doug you are teaching me how to use words look above. but on real as my son would say in slang I take all the good advice in and to my little fan base thank you for the emails and to brother" Memp" you are doing an outstanding job you have created something bigger than you will ever know have a wonderful day brothers and sisters.

Hey Everybody,
Thanks for sharing your insights thus far. I hope that others that we
don't normally hear from will join in. I hope to adjust the feature where folks can vote without registering, so then they will at least click the button on to respond to certain poll questions.
The spammers, such as that US person , has made it difficult for everyone on the web. Even with all the safeguards I've added, spammers keep registering and I keep deleting them.
Anyway, I'll keep checking this area to see what kind of feedback I get so I can determine how to make the forum more accessible and welcome to everyone.
To Carlton, keep on writing and sharing your thoughts because you will soon realize that you are already a writer. The feedback that US, DH, and others provide is only to make you better. That's what we're all here for.
Thanks,
Mempheus
